This one is great. Because of a ‘bet’ on twitter, a group of people from the Netherlands persuaded the Dutch airline KLM to add a direct flight to Florida this coming March over spring break 2011 for the “Ultra Music Fest” if the group, known as Fly2miami was able to fill at least 351 seats by a specific deadline in Dec. 2010.
According to KLM’s VP of e-commerce, Martijn van der Zee, “We can rightly call it a first— the first time KLM will deploy an aircraft following a request on twitter!”
What a powerful example of how social media empowers consumers and what an important tool for all of us, especially when we gather in numbers. (Also a pretty powerful response to consumer demand from an airline.) Any good concerts in Tahiti coming up?
