Southern Savers.

In today’s economy, lots of consumers have increased their coupon downloading but which city reigns as the most frugal?

According to the 2010 Savings Index released by online coupon provider, Coupons.com, Atlanta wins the top spot. On average, regular users of Coupons.com in Atlanta printed more than $1,000 in coupon savings from the site in 2010. That is almost twice as much as during 2009, when they printed $531 in savings.

In fact the South appears to be well represented by consumers who download coupons with 10 of the 20 top spots. The West and Northeast are under represented with only Denver (#19) and Pittsburgh (#8) in the Top 20.

Hard to argue that digital couponing, either on line or via mobile, is saving consumers money, BIG money. According to data from coupon aggregator RetailmeNot.com, consumers saved a total of $32.2MM during the latest November/December 2010 holiday shopping season.

But Southerners are winning as the BIG savers. So when it comes to Southern hospitality it may be best, but now it is done for less.
