40 years ago this month, the very 1st Starbucks opened in Pike’s Place Market in Seattle. Can you believe it has been 40 years? From that first store, Starbucks has grown to 17, 000 locations in 55 countries with revenues of $11 Billion.
Looking at their numbers, it has not all been that rosy. Starbucks had a rough past couple of years as consumers were hard pressed to pay $4 for a latte during the recession. Couple that with some poor real estate decisions and the need to layoff 900 employees –trouble was brewing and it was time to wake up and smell the…, well you know what.
But the economy is rebounding and so is Starbucks. Starbucks just announced impressive quarterly results, is rolling out a new look with their iconic siren, launching new products including their new mini confections called petites and introducing mobile payment plans. And the icing on the cake? Celebrating its 40th birthday with consumer giveaways using social media like Facebook, YouTube and Four Square to help spread the word during their birthday Tribute Days. If you come to Starbucks between 2 and 5 p.m. on March 10-12, Starbucks will treat you to a free Starbucks Petites when you order any handcrafted beverage. Other offers include $40 giveaways and prizes for unlocking the Four Square “Tribute Badge.”
