Trash, Treasure or Product Placement?

It had to come from the weird* people of Netherlands! Not a TV spot or a print ad. Not even a billboard… it’s truly a new genre of promoting products as trash. You know how after every Christmas we find discarded gift wrapping and boxes on streets waiting to be picked up? You can actually see what your neighbors got for Christmas just by talking a walk.

Well, imagine waking up the day after Christmas and finding dozens of actual size Mini Cooper car cartons dumped on sidewalks, complete with torn wrapping paper! A car so economical that it can fit under your tree. And speaking of economical, the street corner product placement surely didn’t break the ad budget. Although I wonder if the trash guys thought it was so smart.

Perhaps there will be a Mini Cooper waiting underneath my tree next Christmas.
