Keeping It Real.

Did Beyoncé lip-sync our national anthem at the president’s inauguration? The right-leaning Drudge Report suggests she did (and says it is confirmed by The Times of London). Now the left-leaning Rolling Stone seems to agree.

Apparently, using a pre-recorded track is not unprecedented at presidential inaugurals. The possibility of inclement weather caused Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman to do the same at the President’s first inaugural. So, is this something we find acceptable? We have probably heard more singers faking it live than we think, and it’s not like an event like this, or say a more pedestrian sporting event, are competitions that require honesty.

Personally, I think we all know that it is a difficult tune to sing well; but I think that if you are considered one of our “best singers” you ought to just do it live and take your chances. Having said that, from what I could see, she’s pretty good at faking it.
