Ever question the power of mixing a simple, good idea with a simple, funny, “homemade” video? Well don’t. Not this time. What started with a simple premise — razor blades shouldn’t cost a lot of money — a user friendly website (www.dollarshaveclub.com) and an extremely funny video, is now becoming a BIG time business, netting almost $10 million in investor funding!
Back in March, the startup called The Dollar Shave Club began to spread everywhere thanks to a hilarious video posted on YouTube. Was the video any good? No. It was f ** ing great!!!
So how does DSC work: It’s simple (getting a theme here?) Starting at $1 per month (plus shipping, of course) DSC charges subscribers a monthly fee to have their blades (and a clever message from the company) shipped to their door. Options get really “fancy” with the $3 “Humble Twin” razor with five cartridge refills to a $9 six-blade “Executive” model with three refills.
Positioning itself as an up-and-comer in the $13 billion men’s shaving industry, DSC enlisted 12,000 customers in just the first two days its e-doors were open. And with its recent boast of confidence in the form of a new $9.8 million dollar capital investment, DSC plans to expand their service internationally… All with a simple idea, a great value, and a funny ad.
At a minimum you owe it to yourself to watch the video… nearly 9 million others already have! However, I warn you, there is a good chance you will become a customer.
