“Fast” Fashion

Teen LingerieThis spring Victoria’s Secret is debuting a new product line called “Bright Young Things.”  This line features underwear with phrases such as “Dare You,” “Feeling Lucky,” and “Call Me.”

A spokesperson for Limited Brands provided an explanation as to why this new product line will appeal to younger girls and he had this to offer:  “When somebody’s 15 or 16 years old, what do they want to be? They want to be older, and they want to be cool like the girl in college, and that’s part of the magic of what we do at Pink.”

OK, I get the fact that younger kids love to feel older than they really are. I certainly did my fair share of playing “dress-up” when I was younger, wearing my mom’s make-up and all.  Unfortunately, “Bright Young Things” has completely sexualized the idea of “dress-up.”  Young girls have plenty of time to grow and mature into young adults when phrases such as “dare you” and “call me” on underwear might be more age appropriate. Should you really be “Feeling Lucky” at 15?

So disgusted that I have to designate a GWH W.T.F. (Winner, Toss-Up or Flop) Award — Total Flop!
