Lately I have become completely obsessed with a little French Bull Dog named Lentil. For those of you who have not yet joined Team Lentil let me give you a little background. Lentil, along with his three siblings, was born with both a cleft palate and lip. Lentil was the only pup of the litter to survive.
Because of his cleft palate/lip, Lentil had to be fed by a tube every three hours by his amazing foster mom, Lindsay Condefer. Lentil’s palate was repaired so he can eat food but since his cleft lip was really a cosmetic issue, they left it as is.
Cute as a button, Lentil and his cleft lip became an “ambassadog” to children with craniofacial issues. In the world of pet therapy, people can relate a little better to pets that have gone through similar things they have experienced so Lentil and his cuteness make for an awesome therapy pet.
The real power of this story though is the power of social media and of course, his very special mom. Early on, Lindsay established a FaceBook page for Lentil (also known as Bean) and he now boasts over 100,000 followers. Everyday, “Bean Stalkers” get updates, photos, videos and other tidbits featuring their favorite little Lentil. It is the biggest love affair I have witnessed. What is so amazing though is how Lindsay and Lentil have raised over $30,000 for the Children’s Craniofacial Association, all with the help of FaceBook. Because of the amazing connection Lentil’s FB followers have to the little guy, many of us have gladly donated to the charity he supports.
With Social Media, one little adorable dog has been able to generate so much good will and funding for a very special group of kids. Thanks FaceBook for making so much of this possible, a definite GWH! W.T.F. (Winner, Toss-Up or Flop) WINNER Award.
