Though I’ve yet to visit the Emerald Isle, I do have a few Irish friends. Wonderful people — funny, bright and talented. And sad. Maybe not in the “someone had better cheer them up quick” kind of sadness, but more an inner sort of ennui, deep down; sometimes I think I can see it in their eyes.
I’ve just seen a beautiful long-form ad for Tullamore D.E.W. whiskey (courtesy of AdWeek). It’s two-and-a-half minutes of rain, mist, and moss. And just like my Irish friends, it’s as sad as it is funny. If a brand wants to show that it understands its audience, I’d say “bloody good job”.
