#UNselfies are the best pix of all

#UNselfie#GivingTuesdayAs someone who simply does not get the fascination with “selfies,” I am a perfect evangelist to remind us all of something that is becoming a personal favorite — #UNselfie#GivingTuesday — a day set aside to switch our focus from buying things galore, to giving back to deserving charitable causes. Begun by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation in 2012, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving (December 2nd in 2014) is a day set aside to show support and post UNselfie photos on your social media to highlight the deserving people, places or things you are giving to. Raised $10 million in 2012 and $19 million last year. Can’t wait to see what is achievable this year!

After watching the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday (isn’t anyone working at their computers that day?), taking over the feel-good of the Thanksgiving season, #GivingTuesday is the best antidote I could imagine. Personally, I can’t wait — wish it wasn’t just one day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
