If you are one of many millions who sets up a Christmas tree every year — and are probably lugging all those decorations back into their boxes this week — take heart! It is possible that in the near future you may be able to… print your own Christmas tree instead of buying one.
Computer scientists indeed have come up with an algorithm for 3D printers to be able to print a waste-free miniature tree. And it wouldn’t stop at the tree. One could, eventually, fabricate molds for chocolate Santas, reindeer, elves, and, maybe, even The Big Santa Guy himself.
OK, so in all fairness, the software is not available yet (and you, probably, don’t have a 3D printer at home just yet either). But maybe it wouldn’t hurt to start making plans for next year…?
And once we 3D “The Tree,” what’s next? What kind of “accoutrements” will be needed to go along with our new 3D treasures? Will there be a whole 3D industry to market?…
HoHoHo! The possibilities!
